Steve Shaw tager i ovennævnte artikel fat i denne oplevelse og giver nogle gode råd. Han skriver i indledningen : "I've heard a lot of people worrying about being at a mambo event when there are some very good dancers in the crowd or on the dance floor. They get intimidated, they hang back, they get embarrassed to dance. Some of them hang out right over there where the best dancers are doing their thing, just standing there and watching and wishing, and feeling inferior, excluded or angry. And some of them get upset because they don't get many dances. Sometimes, the people who are worrying or intimidated are beginner or intermediate dancers, or dancers who are new to our metro mambo scene. They may feel that the crowd is "cliquish" or "stuck-up" or "judgmental and critical". Here are a few thoughts on the matter, and some strategies to get you dancing more, having more fun, and bitching less..."

- Enio Cordoba write about the roots of Salsa and Mambo, and Frank Ramos has systemized his notes about Salsa Dance Patterns in these two articles from La Colonia Cubana, Monthly Magazine.
Its about Salsa as interpreted and practised in the US.
Frank Ramos writes: "...This document originated as a set of notes I made while trying to learn salsa dancing (as a leader) from group classes given at San Francisco nightclubs. Prior to making these notes, I found that each time I learned a new pattern, I would forget the pattern from the week before, and thus never made any progress. After making the notes, I still forgot patterns, but at least had something written down with which to jog my memory.
Once I had written down a large number of patterns, I realized that most of them consisted of combinations and variations of a small number of basic moves (outside and inside turns, cuddles, etc), and so reworked my notation to reflect this fact. ..."
